Headline: How AI Is Transforming SkinCancer Diagnosis
(DermatologyTimes, 9 November 2025)
At the 2025 SDPA Fall Conference, Renata Block highlighted how AI tools-from machine learning to generative AI-are helping dermatologists detect skin cancer earlier and expand access to care. But she warned that fairness, regulation, and affordability must guide progress, reminding clinicians that AI should assist, not replace, human judgment.
This story matters because early detection of skin cancer can save lives, and AI-enabled tools may democratize access to high quality dermatologic care, especially for underserved patients.
However, the technology's success depends on addressing biases because many AI models have been trained on lighter skin tones and ensuring regulatory oversight so the benefits reach all communities.
I responded through poetry and song to capture the hope, tension and human impact of letting a machine look under our skin while still needing the warmth of a clinician's touch
